Frida Freed from her Earthly Form - Premium Matte Paper Metal Framed Poster

$65.00
“Frida Freed from her Earthly Form” is my tribute painting to Frida Kahlo. I wanted to paint her death. The death that Frida looked forward to. The death that Frida wasn’t afraid of. Frida Kahlo suffered immensely during her entire life. She was born with spinal bifida, contracted polio at age 6, was left permanently disabled at age 18 after being impaled in a bus accident, underwent at least 30 surgeries, and died at just 47 years old. Frida spend a significant part of her life lying in this bed. She would paint, socialize, laugh, cry, eat, dream, and suffer great pain stuck in that bed. I can only imagine how a woman with her intelligence, curiosity, and flare for life would have wanted nothing more than to jump out of that bed and never crawl back in. I painted Frida Kahlo, young and healthy, leaping off the top of her bed across a deep canyon. From a lifeless, stormy, uncomfortable plain occupied by her deathbed into a jungle with spider monkeys climbing vines and parrots in the trees. Only through death was she able to leap across this chasm separating herself from the world she wished she could have fully experienced. When I imagine her death, I imagine her finally free from the pain and disability that tortured her so and she would be able to run, jump, climb, and play without ever returning to her bedpost prison. This is an open edition print. The original painting is acrylic on paper and the original dimensions are 16”x16”. The product is printed through Gelato and is shipped with frame.
